The leadership of the Movement for
the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has threatened to
embark on another round of protests across the entire South-East and
South-South states of the federation, if steps are not taken for the immediate
release of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu from detention.
This was contained in statement
issued Friday, and signed by MASSOB National Director of Information, Comrade
Samuel Edeson and National Secretary, Comrade Ibem Ugwuoke Ibem respectively,
after the National Executive Officers meeting held at its headquarters in Okwe
Onuimo in Imo State.
The MASSOB disclosed that after a
series of public protests, demonstrations, civil disobedience and stay at home
protests against the continued detention of Kanu, who is one of the brains
behind the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), by the Federal Government and
the failure of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to obey three different
competent court orders for his release, the group said it was demanding that he
be released or they would be forced to initiate action which would further
erode Nigeria’s image.
The release further directed all its
members, both in Nigeria and in the Diaspora, to prepare for massive
demonstrations, protests and civil disobedience to press home their demand,
starting from Monday, January 18.
